I'll be back Via de la Plata! I'm not done with you yet, but not ever again in summer!
Some deep thoughts Doing these 6 days (over 100kms) of the Via has not been the spiritual journey I was expecting but one of building strength of body and of mind and learning to adjust when expectations are different. Still such important life lessons! Part of my reason for doing the Caminos is to let go of the "baggage" I've been holding onto. Whilst mentally I have been doing this, I need the physical rituals to accompany this. My ritual is to leave mementos on the way markers along the Camino. This has not been possible doing the Via de la Plata as the route is so rural and the way markers very different to those I had encountered on the Camino Portugues. So I now begin a different part of my journey which will satisfy the other aspect of my spiritual growth. That is the Santiago de Compostela to Finisterre Camino route. Literally end of the earth. When I get there I will throw my takkies (sneakers for those non-South African folk!) into the ocean- quite literally. And if I haven't found suitable Way Markers along the route I will also release those mementos to mother nature. Those that have passed on have no further use for them on this earth and I need to lighten the load that I am carrying. Physically and Spiritually. Stay tuned for the Camino Finisterre chronicles which start on Monday the 21st August. I'm currently on an R&R break in Zafra, trying to get the feeling back into my feet!
